Hello everyone, I hope you are all good. Welcome to the Phrasal Verb Series – Day 4! In Day 3 we finished the BREAK family. Today we take the BRING family — and this one has a trap the BREAK family did not. Five of these ten can be glossed as “cause” or “introduce”, so a student who memorises one-word synonyms ends up with five identical cards, and then SSC puts three of them in the options of the same question. What separates them is the kind of object each one takes, not the synonym. Read the story once, learn the meanings, then play the games and take the quiz.

📖 The Story — Arun Brings His Cousin Through
Arun had cleared the exam, and that one result brought about a change nobody in the family had expected. The uncle who used to call coaching a waste of money now sent his own daughter, Kavita, to Delhi.
Kavita had been brought up by her grandmother in a village near Rohtak, and she arrived with two bags and a great deal of fear. Her college had once brought out a small English magazine, and she had written for it; that was the whole of her confidence.
Arun looked at her timetable and brought down her study hours from twelve to six. “Twelve hours of guilt is not study,” he said. He also brought in one strict rule: no new book until the old one is finished.
She argued for a week. It took him that long to bring her round. Then, in the January mock, she brought off something nobody saw coming — 158, higher than Arun’s own first attempt.
The Delhi winter was not kind. A week of cold mornings on the terrace brought on a cough that would not go, and the commission brought forward the Tier-1 date by three weeks. Kavita panicked.
So Arun did the only thing he knew. He brought back the routine that had worked for him two winters ago: one topic, one test, one honest review, every single day. On result day her name was on the list.

🧭 The Four Groups — Why the Particle Decides
BRING always means carry something towards a point. The particle tells you what kind of point it lands on, and all ten fall into four clean groups.
1. It lands on a result — about, on, off
Sort them by the kind of result. Bring about takes reform, revolution, improvement, a change of attitude. Bring on takes a fever, an attack, a quarrel, trouble — if the result hurts, it is on. Bring off takes a win, a deal, a rescue, and means you managed it.
2. It lands in public view — out, in, forward
Something private or unused becomes public or official. A press brings out a book, a parliament brings in a law, a member brings forward a proposal. All three take an institution as the subject. No institution in the sentence? These three are probably wrong.
3. It lands on a person — up, round, back
A person is carried along by someone else’s effort. The time scale gives it away: bring up is years, bring round is minutes, bring back is a return after an absence.
4. It lands lower — down
The only one with a literal direction left in it. Prices come down, governments come down. If the sentence has a number or a ruling party in it, test bring down first.
